KWPN (breeding family 900)
This very handsome, black, long-legged stallion is a son of the keur stallion Namelus R out of an Aramis Z dam and has the same granddam as Mermus R, Wender R, and Odermus R. Two of Stal Roelofs’ very influential performance lines come together in Tolan R: The Dermie-line of Toys R Us, Zandigo, and Belle de Jour and the renowned Melusiena-line of horses including Namelus R, Hay Gay, Lamalushi, and Velusinus R.
Tolan R’s grandsire, Aramis Z, jumped at a high level prior to becoming a breeding stallion. Joost and Abgar xx blood is on both sides of Tolan R’s pedigree.
In Ermelo, Tolan R proved that he has good technique, quick front legs, and nice bascule. This black stallion also has a great deal of scope, something that is definitely needed in current KWPN breeding.
Tolan R was ridden internationally at 1.40 level by Ben Schröder.
Tolan R’s foals have lots of presence, long legs, and ample suppleness. The stallion’s 2005 foal report was good. In free-jumping, Tolan R offspring are very careful and quick off the ground. They collect well in the canter. At the provincial show in Luttenberg, 2008, offspring of Tolan R, bred out of dams by Kroongraaf and Mermus R, took first and second place in the final of the foal show.
Some of the first Tolan R daughters received high marks at Dutch performance tests (EPTM and IBOP). Tolan R’s jumping index (140) shows that Tolan R strongly improves the genetic ability for show jumping.
Tolan R was the first of the T-crop to get a son approved by the KWPN: the quality jumper Zazou R.
Tolan R sires many black/dark bay horses and no chestnuts.
